Tragically, 11 die from AstraZeneca in Australia

We honour the memory of all those who tragically died during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and we extend our deep sympathies and sincere condolences to loved ones left grieving.

We actively work towards creating a public memorial to remember the people who tragically died, from the AstraZeneca vaccine, and all those sadly lost in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It is an important nuance for us to maintain, that these are all people who have died due to the pandemic, and all lives lost are a tragedy.

Please find below a record of the eleven tragic deaths due to the COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca in Australia, 2021. This is the first reporting apart from the TGA that reports their tragic deaths altogether and honours their lives – reporting which we believe would have already occurred were the cause of death different. It is continually updated; the dates listed are often the dates the deaths were reported, not the actual date of passing. At this stage, for most individuals there is little information available except for what has been reported by the TGA and occasionally in the media. It is not intended to represent the value of these important individual human lives as statistics or diminish the story of their lives in any way by listing their deaths in this way. Devastatingly, they are amongst many more overseas whose lives have also been tragically lost as a result of AstraZeneca. 14^th April 2021, reported date of death by Central Coast News.

Genene Norris, 48-year-old woman from NSW tragically dies from thrombosis (blood clots in the arteries and veins) with thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) likely linked to the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.[1]

Genene Norris sadly is the first person and the first woman to die in Australia due to the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Her death was reported by the TGA on the 16^th April 2021:

“The TGA’s Vaccine Safety Investigation Group (VSIG) met late today and concluded that a recently reported case of thrombosis (blood clots in the arteries and veins) with thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) is likely to be linked to vaccination. VSIG reviewed a report about a 48-year-old woman who was vaccinated in New South Wales and admitted to hospital with an extensive thromboembolic event and thrombocytopenia (TTS) four days after receiving the AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine. Sadly, this person died in hospital and we extend our sincerest condolences to her family.

This is the third Australian report of a case of TTS following the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. The latest case was vaccinated on the morning of 8 April, prior to the decision by ATAGI and the announcement by Government that the Pfizer vaccine was preferred for patients under 50 years old. The first two cases are being treated in hospital and have been recovering well.”[2]
52-year-old woman, NSW, reported by the TGA on 10^th June 2021: “Since last week’s report, a further four reports of blood clots and low blood platelets have been assessed as confirmed TTS likely to be linked to the AstraZeneca vaccine. One of these cases was in a 52-year-old woman from NSW who sadly died. This case presented as a severe form of this syndrome, with a blood clot in the brain, known as a cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. We extend our sincere condolences to her family.”[3]
61 year old woman, WA, reported by the TGA on 1^st July 2021: “Although many of these individuals have recovered or are recovering, one person who received the AstraZeneca vaccine sadly died.”[4] This death is later reported on 8^th July 2021 by the TGA as a 61 year old woman[5]: “The TGA is closely monitoring reports of ITP in light of a case in a 61-year-old woman from Western Australia who developed severe ITP after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine. Sadly the woman died and we extend our sincerest condolences to her family and loved ones.”[6]
72-year-old woman, SA, reported by the TGA on 15^th July 2021: “A 72-year-old woman from South Australia has sadly died after developing TTS following vaccination with her first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The TGA extends its sincerest condolences to her family and loved ones. The woman was previously confirmed[7] [8^th July 2021] as having TTS related to vaccination. This was a very severe case of TTS involving blood clots in the brain and a very low platelet count. Her death was announced by the South Australian Deputy Chief Public Health Officer on Monday 12 July 2021.”[8]
Ian William McDonald Reed, 44-year-old man, Tasmania, tragically dies on 16^th July 2021 from vaccine-induced prothrombotic immune thrombocytopenia (VIPIT) caused by the AstraZeneca vaccine.[9] His death was reported by the TGA on 22^nd July 2021: “Sadly, this week we were notified that two confirmed cases of TTS after the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine were fatal. One was in a 44-year-old man from Tasmania and the other was in a 48-year-old women from Victoria (this case was reported as probable TTS in last week’s report). The TGA extends its sincerest condolences to their families and loved ones.” [10]
48-year-old woman, Victoria, reported by the TGA on 22^nd July 2021: “Sadly, this week we were notified that two confirmed cases of TTS after the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine were fatal. One was in a 44-year-old man from Tasmania and the other was in a 48-year-old women from Victoria (this case was reported as probable TTS in last week’s report). The TGA extends its sincerest condolences to their families and loved ones.”[11]
4^th August 2021, confirmed date of death. Katie entered Royal Prince Alfred Hospital on Sunday 1^st August 2021.

Katie Margaret Lees, 34-year-old woman, NSW, reported by the TGA on 5^th August 2021: “Since last week’s report, a further 3 reports of blood clots and low blood platelets have been assessed as confirmed or probable TTS likely to be linked to the AstraZeneca vaccine (Table1). Sadly, one of the cases, a 34-year-old woman from NSW, died yesterday. The TGA extends its sincerest condolences to her family and loved ones. We are in close communication with NSW Health who are undertaking further investigation of this case.”[12]

2^nd December 2021, the TGA reports: “Of the 686 deaths reported to the TGA, over 75% occurred in people aged 65 years and older. A small number of deaths have been reported in individuals under 35 years of age, including two adolescents. Only one death reported in a younger person has been linked to vaccination [in Australia] – this was in a 34-year-old woman who died as a result of TTS.”[13] [Sidenote: this could be considered misleading, as the TGA converses with international counterparts who by December 2021, have experienced larger numbers of deaths in younger people.]

16^th December 2021, the TGA reports: “Of the 705 deaths reported to the TGA, over 75% occurred in people aged 65 years and older. The median age was 76 years old. A very small number of deaths have been reported in individuals under 35 years of age, including 2 adolescents. Only one death reported in a younger person has been linked to vaccination [in Australia] – this was in a 34-year-old woman who died as a result of TTS.”[14]

Katie’s death was reported by the Sydney Morning Herald on 19th May, 2022, read the article.[15]
59-year-old woman, Queensland, reported by the TGA on 2^nd September 2021: “Sadly, two people died this week – a 59-year-old woman from Queensland with confirmed TTS and a 54-year-old man from NSW with probable TTS. The TGA extends its sincerest condolences to her family and loved ones. We are in close communication with the Queensland authorities who are undertaking further investigation of this case.”[16]
54-year-old man, NSW, reported by the TGA on 2^nd September 2021: “Sadly, two people died this week – a 59-year-old woman from Queensland with confirmed TTS and a 54-year-old man from NSW with probable TTS. The TGA extends its sincerest condolences to her family and loved ones. We are in close communication with the Queensland authorities who are undertaking further investigation of this case.”[17]
Robyn, 77-year-old woman, Victoria. Her tragic death was reported by ABC News on 17th May 2022: “She died in hospital on September 5 last year [2021], leaving four children, six grandchildren and three cats. The cause of death listed on her death certificate is “Guillain-Barre syndrome in the setting of recent AstraZeneca vaccination”.[18]

Robyn’s tragic death was officially reported by the TGA on 9^th December 2021: “Two fatal cases of suspected GBS [Guillain-Barre Syndrome] following a first dose of Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca) were reviewed by an independent Vaccine Safety Investigation Group on 7 December 2021. These involved a 77-year-old woman from Victoria and an 81-year-old woman from NSW. Sadly, both women died as a result of their symptoms and we extend our sincere condolences to their families and loved ones.”[19]
81-year-old woman, NSW, reported by the TGA on 9^th December 2021: “Two fatal cases of suspected GBS [Guillain-Barre Syndrome] following a first dose of Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca) were reviewed by an independent Vaccine Safety Investigation Group on 7 December 2021. These involved a 77-year-old woman from Victoria and an 81-year-old woman from NSW. Sadly, both women died as a result of their symptoms and we extend our sincere condolences to their families and loved ones.”[20]

Deaths not counted in TGA reporting:

1st July 2021, TGA COVID-19 vaccine weekly safety report states “The TGA has sadly been advised by its UK counterpart, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), of the death of a woman in the UK five weeks after receiving her first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine in Australia. (https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/medicines-and-healthcareproducts-regulatory-agency) Her family has requested privacy, and we pass on our condolences to them at this sad time. It is not known whether she was an Australian citizen or permanent resident.” [21]

TGA update on 19^th August 2021: “On 1 July 2021 we reported on the case of a woman who died of suspected TTS in the UK 5 weeks after receiving her first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine in Australia.[22] At that time, we advised that she had another serious underlying health condition. Information received subsequently indicates that she did not in fact have an underlying condition. Once more, we pass on our sincerest condolences to the woman’s family and loved ones.”[23]

28^th October 2021, the TGA’s COVID-19 weekly safety report states: “one patient died from unrelated medical conditions while being treated for TTS. The outcome for this patient is not included in this table.”[24]

International

UK Yellow Card reporting statistics show that up to 11 May 2022, there have tragically been 81 (45 women, 35 men, 1 ‘unknown’; this is UK government terminology) deaths from “major thromboembolic events (blood clots) with concurrent thrombocytopenia (low platelet counts)” caused by COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca in the UK, and 4 from COVID-19 Pfizer/BioNTech Vaccine.[25] Out of the 81 tragic deaths from AstraZeneca in the UK, 75 are from first doses; of which there have been 24.9 million administered (this is a fatality risk of approximately 3.01 per million), and 6 are from second doses; of which there have been 24.1 million as at 11 May 2022 (this is a fatality risk of approximately 0.249 per million).
